Most of the slates used are over a hundred years old and are recycled from the New Orleans & Baton Rouge area. Original painted slates are weather sealed for indoor/outdoor decorative art and their rugged edges add a rustic charm to their individual character.
The Story of the "Fleur de Lis"
Since the Middle Ages the Fleur de Lis, a stylized design of a lily, came to symbolize Christianity. It's three petals explain the association with the Holy Trinity.
The Fleur de Lis is particularly associated with the French monarchy. The three petals of the lily of France were being described by writers as symbols of faith. wisdom, and chivalry.
Mardi Gras celebrations revive the fleur de lis with its French heritage. Today, it is the official emblem of the city of New Orleans and will soon be the same for our state of Louisiana.
